What Causes Excessive Coughing And Shortness Of Breath?

I have been sick for a week now...went to family doctor on Friday and was diagnosed with bronchitis. He put me on predisone, z-pack and cough syrup w/codeine. I have not had alot of coughing at all, but feel like I have bricks on the front and back of my chest with shortness of breath. It gets worse as the day goes on. I have just about finished all my meds. Do you think this is pneumonia?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi. I can understand your concern.
If the chest pain is disturbing your routine activity then get a chest x ray done to rule out any lung infection. If your chest x ray is normal, no need to worry for lung infection.
Possibility of bronchitis is more in your case.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT is needed for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
