What Causes Elevated Esr Levels?

hello there
my son is 5 years old
he had lung infection and was put on iv medication - his esr (wintrobe) male was 36 before the medication. the medication started on wednesday night. we did another blood test today and his esr is 39. what can be the reason for this ? pls help

thanks for your question.

the esr is the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. it measures the amount of proteins in the blood which goes up in infection. the difference between 36 and 39 is not significant. the esr takes a few days to respond to changes in a patients condition.
