What Causes Diabetes , Spinal Stenosis And Neuropathy In Both Legs?

my husband is diabectic and on several medicines. He has had extreme pain and muscle spasms on his right side and down his groin. He went to the hospital they were so bad and they did a ct scan to ckeck for appendicitis or kidney stones. Everything looked OK and all his blood work came back fine. He then went to see his endocronologist and he said it was from his diarectic he is taking. His blood pressure was low, and his kidney function was abnormal also. He said stop the diarectic, drink plenty of fluids and get another lab test done in 2 weeks. It has been 3 days since he stopped the diarectic and still in a lot of pain. Not sure what to do next? He is 67 yrs old, 6 1 and weighs 240lbs. He suffers from diabetes, spinal stenosis, neuropathy in both lower legs, and foot drop.

HI
Welcome to HCm

Painful muscular spasm on one side of body indicate some problem in the Spinal cord or nerves arising from the spinal cord .

I want to know whether the spasms in in the upper limb also or only in the right leg and groin ? If its in upper limb also then he needs MRI whole Spine scan which will detect if there is any problem in spinal cord .

Some other causes of muscular spams are low calcium or potassium in Blood ( though it causes generalised muscle spasm ). I advise you get his Serum Calcium and Poatssium checked .

Till the reports come you can ask your doctor for a prescription of muscle relaxant like BAclofen . Kindly revert back with the reports .
