What Causes Dark Stools And Vomiting?

I am recovering from a case of shingles. The other night i vomited brown liquid. No problem since---except my stools were dark this morning. I had eaten soy sauce the other night ,when i vomited ,which may have become contaminated. Also, i was diagnosed with hiatal hernia about 4 years ago.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Vomiting of brown liquid can be due to bleeding from stomach which in turn can cause the dark or black colored stools.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get the stool tested from routine. micro and occult blood.
Upper GI Endoscopy should be done.
Blood tests of CBC, liver functions, bleeding and clotting time.,
Ultrasonography of abdomen to see for portal hypertension.
Clinical evaluation and examination by a Doctor, preferably a Gastroenterologist.
Get started on a PPI like Omeprazole, antacids and other medications as would be advised.
