Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My children s father is in the hospital with congestive heart failure. He is 45 years old. He has been smoking meth for almost 15 years. The doctors say that he is only using 15-20% of his heart. My children have a million questions and I have no answers. All of the doctors and specialists are very kind and professional but my children want to know if he is going to die soon.
Hello,I have gone through case details of your husband, worry of your children is quite understandable. At the age of 45 in a smoker who has heart failure can have following causes.1.He might be long standing hypertensive either silent or irregular on trratment.2.Ischaemic heart disease I.e.blockage in arteries supplying blood to heart.3.Cardiomyopathy,primary disorder of muscle of life. First 2 conditions may be reversible once properly treated and evaluated .Last condition is progressive. But if your husband stops smoking ,takes proper medicines and regulate his physical activity. He can have fairly good life span . My best wishes Dr.Teli,MD
