What Causes Cold With Sinus Congestion?
I'm trying to determine if I have just a cold or if I have something worse that would require seeing a doctor. (They are so backed up right now and it seems a waste to pay for the visit if it's just a viral cold.
Within the last 3 weeks I got a nasty cold a few days after my daughter was diagnosed with pneumonia. Mostly a head cold with sinus congestion that turned into some post-nasal drip and vertigo from my ears being clogged. That was gone for just a few days and now I have a very slightly elevated temp last night and today (99.3), cough, bad body aches, chills, headache and now more post-nasal drip today.
There are lots of cases of influenze and H1N1 in my area but with no "real" fever I'm thinking just a cold?

Understanding your concern. As per query you have cold with sinus congestion which is due to sinusitis which is leading to infection of upper respiratory tract. Infection through post nasal drip spread down the respiratory track and can chest congestion . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay to prevent further complication like lung infection. Doctor may order CT scan ,chest x-ray , allergy test and blood test to rule out diseases like influenze and H1N1 . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics at least for 10 days amoxicillin, decongestant nasal sprays and cough expectorant . For now take steam twice a day to relieve congestion , apply hot compresses on chest and do drink glass of warm water with one spoon of honey in it .
