What Causes Chest Pain With Increase In Heart Rate?

When I run on the treadmill and my heart rate gets to about 118 my chest hurts. Anything from 118-122 hurts a bunch, even my arms hurt. I had a stent put in 14 months ago, and still have one 90% blockage that they dont want to fix because it could cause more complications. After about 15 minuets it kinda goes away. My doctor just tried a nitrate pill for a month but that didn't make a difference. I am 50 years old 185 lbs. and very active. Mountain bike, dirt bike, you name it. My doctor told me that because the nitrates didn't work it's not my heart. Could that be?

Hello, I have gone through your detailed complaints and understand what you are passing through.
Your chest pain is caused by reduced blood supply to the heart which causes the shortage of oxygen to the heart. This is as a result of the blockage in your vessel.
There isn't much need for worry, it is a common issue in the population these days, especially amongst people of 40 years and above caused by atherosclerosis.
Since you are not responding well to the Nitrates your Doctor prescribed and as reported by you can't be fixed, I guess you mean " Coronary angioplasty" you might be a good candidate for a CABG.You should discuss the possibility of this with your physician. Hope you get better soon.
