I have been experiencing a burning smell in my nose for the past 2 months. First, it was just occasionally. Since last week it is constant. Now the smell has turned into a burning sensation as well with discomfort aboce the nose and eyes. Did go to a Gp today and he perscribed amoxicillin 500 mg. Only a slight indication of some mucous in my nose. Am concerned about the symptom of the burning smell as I've heard that it could be related to a brain tumor. Not sure of what kind of doctor to see.
Hi, Happy that you are able to appreciate smell. Abnormal smell perception is called as Phantosmia. It happens in general flu like cold turn into acute of chronic sinusitis. It disaapears in time. if it's not happening in a week youmay try Mucolitics for 5 days, nasal decongestant drops twice daily for 5 days and each time followed by steam inhallation. Normal saline irrigation of nasal cavity twice daily. If everything failed meet your ENT dr for further evaluation and management. Take care
