I'm 43 years old. I had my annual OBGYN exam about 2 weeks ago. My doctor's office called this morning and said I received my 1st ever abnormal pap test result. It was also determined that I have group B strep...also, I am not pregnant. I'm told to begin antibiotics immediately and no other followup is needed. My question is how do we know that my abnormal pap is directly related to the group B and not abnormal cells and how dangerous to my health is it to wait for next year's annual to be checked again if I do have abnormal cells in there that may be causing my abnormal results? Is it really okay to assume the antibiotics will take care of my problem and then just wait another whole year and see if it's still abnormal again before testing any further?
