What Causes A Sore Mole On The Neck?

Hello- I have a mole on my neck that is sore, hanging and black--I think I might have bumped or somehow caused it to become irritated. Is this something to worry about. I have no health insurance and am 57 years old, 5'6", 148 lbs. (Could the black color be due to the soreness and possible formation of a scab (like a scab due to soreness or wound)? There is no history of skin cancers that I know of, in my family. I do have alot of moles on my neck. I actually do recall having a very sore mole on my neck, but it eventually went away. I tend to rub or pull at them sometimes.
