General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 60 year old Mother and understood the concerns.
Stroke paralyzing the left side can also affect the urinary and bowel functions depending upon the part of the brain that is affected.
Hence the cause of loose motions every three days has to be found out.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.
Take your Mother to a General Surgeon or a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of the following:
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position to see for the fecoliths or any other problems. Rarely a CT scan may be needed.
If fecoliths are present in colon an enema is needed to evacuate the large bowel so that can be one of the reasons for spurious diarrhea which is recurrent.
ALso see that laxatives are not misused, overdosed.
Per-rectal digital examination can helps to know whether the anal sphincter if affected or not and if there is any associated problem.
Watch for the foods and beverages that can cause the diarrhea.
Continue proper treatment of Neurological problem, physiotherapy and any other problems that can be present which caused the stroke.
