Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 21 years old and about to start MonoNessa (the birth control pill in which my physician prescribed me). I am worried, however, this being my first hormonal contraceptive, that the dose may be too high for me - I researched some of the side affects of this drug, and I am now unsure if I want to go through with taking birth control. I also take 40mg of Adderall XR a day.
Mononessa is a combined birth control pill containing ethinyl estradiol and Norgestimate. Nausea, abdominal pain or cramps, fluid retention, acne, mood changes, breast pain and irregular bleeding are some of the side effects. Not all the side effects occur in every women and most of them reduce after a month of use. By this time, your body will adjust to the new hormone levels.
Always take the pill at the same time every day to maintain consistent hormone levels. Adderall does not cause any major drug interaction with birth control pill and can be taken together. You can take the drug at different time of the day.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
