Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Amlodipine And Atenolol For A Long Time?
I am a 50yr old female, measuring about 5 feet. I am diagnosed with HYPERTENSION 6 months ago and since then I am consuming Amlodipine 5mg+Atenolol 50mg tablet once daily. I want to ask you doctor that is it safe to use that tablet for chronic illness. And do tell me its side effects on chronic usage, thank you.
Every single pill can have its side effect, including Amlodipine and Atenolol. However, we decide to prescribe medications based on the health problems the patient is having. If the benefits outweigh the side effects we advise patients to continue taking them.
If you will notice anything unusual, then should report to your caring doctor in order to get your rechecked and revise your current therapy making appropriate changes. I understand taking pills for long time can be annoying, but should not stop them on your own, and take them exactly as prescribed to get the desired effect.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
