What Are The Side Effects Of Cranberry Pills?

One of the side effects listed is sever stomach pain. I have had an endoscopy and have inflammation of esophagus and stomach. I have taken cranberry pills for several years. Am I to assume the cranberry pills are responsible for gastritis with intolerance for spicy foods?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Cranberry is a type of evergreen shrub that grows in wet areas, such as bogs or wetlands. Cranberry is most commonly used for the prevention and treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Cranberry is relatively safe for most people when taken by mouth appropriately.
Its use is known to affect stomach by causing low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria) and Inflammation of the stomach lining (Atrophic gastritis).
Since you have consumed it over several years, it could have contributed to the development of inflammation of stomach and esophagus.
You need to take suitable measures to prevent its progression and revert back to normal.
Kindly consult Physician with the report for appropriate evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
