Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Complications after a failed abortion depend on the type of procedures you have gone through. If you had a medical abortion (meaning you took pills and/or put pills in the vagina to expel the pregnancy), there is a chance of birth defects from the medicines you took.

If you had a surgical abortion, limb defects can occasionally occur as well as damage to the cord or placenta. However, if your fetus survived to 19 weeks, it is unlikely that these events occurred, but an ultrasound of the baby's anatomy can rule out these types of birth defects.

As far as alcohol use in pregnancy is concerned, there is a dose-dependent relationship between the alcohol you have been drinking and the potential effects it has on the baby. Mild alcohol consumption is not usually associated with problems but if you are a heavy and/or binge drinker, there is a risk for abnormalities.

Fetal alcohol syndrome is a combination of physical and mental effects caused by congenital alcohol exposure, but there is no critical amount of alcohol that causes this syndrome. It is different for every person. The best thing you can do for now is to stop alcohol consumption, see a doctor for good prenatal care and an ultrasound, and take prenatal vitamins as this will all increase your chance of a healthy baby.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jacqueline Brown
