What Are The Complications Of Performing Surgery In A Diabetic Patient?

Hi,

My mom-in-law has met with an accident. She has broken bones in the rib cage and bones between the knee and ankle. The doctor has informed us that a surgery is required. She is a diabetic with a high blood sugar. It's been 3 days since this serious accident and the surgery has not been scheduled yet, since the doctor feels the sugar level is not controlled. What are the general complications of such a orthopedic surgeries? What is the right course of action? We are worried because she is in pain . Your response is much appreciated.

She is 68 years old with health issues ( Diabetes, High BP).

Regards,

Anu
