Treated A Painful Swollen Tender Spot On Perinium That Burst With Brown Discharge With Neosporin. Is This Right ?

I am a 50 year old male, I had a tender spot in my perinium which over 3 days became very painful and swollen, I got out of the van and it burst, smelly and brown stuff mixed with blood. I cleaned area, put neosporin on area, soaked in hot bath with seasalt, started taking amoxicillin ..I have no health insurance until next month and no money ! Am I treating problem correctly, it is still draining. Thanks..

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

I would keep a possibility of Furuncle (bacterial infection) which has ruptured with discharge of pus mixed with blood.

Sitz bath will help to sooth the area, so you can continue with it.

You can continue with Amoxycillin 500mg thrice daily for a week. If i was your treating doctor even i would have started you on one of the antibiotics from the penicillin group.

I would have also advised a topical antibacterial ointment like 2% Mupirocin twice daily for a week. It is avalailble OTC.

An OTC pain killer like ibuprofen whenever needed for the pain.
