Taking Antidepressants. Have Constipation. Yellow Or Orange Oil Floating On Water. Worred

Hi, I am a 47 year old female, with a BSN degree, with no major health issues except I am on 2 antidepressants (very long term) and a few psychiatric meds. I never eat more then once a day sometimes not even that as I am Extremely Picky. I eat no meat, fish, or poultry. I have had LONG TERM severe constipation, not relieved by Miralax, Colace, fiber etc. Over the past few months, when I do have a relatively "normal stool" instead of my customary "hard tiny pieces or balls" I have noticed yellow or orange oil floating to the top of the water in the commode. I attributed this to eating frozen pizzas & mac. & cheese (fatty foods) but now have read it can be a sign of Cystic Fibrosis, or celiac disease. I am now worried! Thank You.

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

First of all get a stool examination test especially for faecal fat to confirm whether it is steatorrhea or not (loosing fat in stool). If it is positive then go for specific test for loosing stool like endoscopy and duodenal biopsy, thyroid function tests, anti transtissue glutaminase antibody levels.

Constipation may be due to side effect of medicine you are taking. Many antidepressant and psychiatric medicine do cause constipation so discuss regarding this with your treating doctor and ask him to replace if feasible.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
