Taking Cymbalta Long Term. Have Alopecia Areata, Scalp Scabs, Dry Skin Lesions, Redness In Body. Memory Lapses. Help

I have been taking cymbalta for 4 years and am starting to develop a lot of questionable symptoms. I had alopecia ariata in one spot on my scalp (size of a dime), have scalp scabs and have developed dry skin lesions and redness on multiple parts of my body. Dermatologist has done biopsy on one area of my calf and shows no disease. She has said my autoimmune system may be at fault. I have also had memory lapses and friends say they are worried about me; I have no ambition and am happy just sitting around. Am presently weaning myself off the cymbalta. Have you ever heard of these types of skin problems with this drug?

Hi,
Well known side effects of Duloxetine (cymbalta) are nausea, dry mouth, constipation, fatigue, decreased appetite, and sweating. Others being sexual dysfunction, insomnia, irritability, anxiety, nervousness, and restlessness. It should not be stopped abruptly since it has chances of causing discontinuation syndrome where symptoms can be intense. Urinary retention are rare side effects.
This drug is not well known to cause such side effects that you are experiencing. But some varied effects of drugs cannot be predicted nor confirmed. The symptoms may or may not be the effects of the drug.
Consult your psychiatrist for an alternative.
Hope this helps,
