Taking Biomyf For Neuromyelitis Optica. Has Hiccups, Vomiting, Low Cardiac Pulse. Problem?
My sister had been diagonised with Neuromyelitis Optica 8 months ago and she is regularly taking Biomyf 5oo mg tablets. She was also taking Irex tab and Tegrital CR200 tablets. Now suddenly for the past one week she has non-stop hiccups and vomiting and she is in the hospital now. the Doctors have taken MRI scan and are about to take cardiac test as her pulse is low -41. Doctors also have planned to give her Redaytux injection. Can you please tell me exactly what is her problem and will she be alright. She is just 42 years old and a family to look after. We are all so worried about her.

Thanks for the question. Since your sister is being investigated for heart, wait for the doctors report.Low pulse attributes to some heart problem and whether it is secondary to drugs or primary has to be found out.Hiccups are common with GERD (gastric reflux disease) which may also be due to drugs. Your eye doctor and cardiac doctor shall co-ordinate to find the cause and institute treatment accordingly

It is quite possible that you sister is suffering from relapse of neuromyelitis optica (NMO). It is a form of auto immune disease which the body immunse system turn against itself manifesting as hiccup and vomiting and weaknesses in body parts. The scan will probably look for elements in favour of this in the spinal cord and eyeball. Redaytux is an immune suppressing drugs aim at reducing the body immune reaction and therefore treating NMO. However, side effect of Biomyf and Tegrital include vomiting but relapse of NMO is the most probable diagnosis. She could be alright but there are some chances that she has neurological deficit afterward.
