Swollen tonsils with cuts on them. What is this?

My tonsils have been swollen for years after having been sick. They never went back down, but never hurt. Now that I am sick again my right tonsil is enlarged MORE and with what looks like cuts, not holes or white spots. What are these cuts? Also, when I rub my fingers along where my threat and jaw meet, I feel tissue that, if I push on, will go back up into my jaw, but only on the right side.

Dear dnecco55,
Good afternoon,

You are having enlarged tonsills with infection (Tonsillitis). You will require a course of antibiotics and other symptomatic treatment. Plus ... a throat swab culture to identify the causative bacteria so as to facilitate the right antibiotic regimen.
Please consult an ENT surgeon.

I hope this answers your query, I will be glad to reply any follow up query that you have.
In case you do not have any further query, please accept the answer.

Wishing you best of health.
