Swollen stomach with illeostomy

my brother had an ileostomy in July due to colon cancer, when they removed one foot of large colon....ileostomy to be reversed as soon as all wounds from surgery are healed...last monday his stomach bloated after it had been nice and flat....what are possible causes of this stomach bloating?

Read your prob, gaseous distension n reduse motility of intestine is common side effect of ileostomy. if he pass gas n stool then nothing to worry. but if he feel pain abdomen, n not pass gas n stool, vomiting present then consult with your doc.

The most common cause for bloating after reversal is paralysis of the intestines causing food to remain in the stomach as there won't be peristalsis. Other reasons can be gas and peritonitis sec to leaky anastamosis
