Swelling In Foot, Difficulty In Walking. Wearing Boots Improved Swelling Earlier. Diabetic. Advice?

my partner has type two diabetes. Two months ago he had a problem with a swollen foot (right foot) which extended halfway up the leg. He was ,made to wear a boot for about two months. The condition improved and boot was removed. Yesterday the swelling has returned and he is in great pain and can hardly walk. What can you advise. At the moment I have helped him to keep the affected leg elevated. Will very much appreciate your advice. Thank you. Beatrice

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Diabetic history, swelling in legs with great pain suggest many causes like uncontrolled diabetes, nephropathy, peripheral neuropathy or PVD. For now keep it elevated and can give NSAID for Pain and put stockings. Get examined once to know the cause. Get done his sugar values like FBS, PPBS, HbA1c, lipid profile, liver and renal function tests with complete examination including pedal pulse, AB index, sensory involvement. With these we can plan the next line of management. Consult your doctor for examination and management.
Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum .
Since, how many days you partner having diabetes, please mention it?
Hypertensive or not mention it?
Since , you mentioned that there is swelling only over the right foot , so may be due to occlusion of right leg blood vessels.
Thrombosis is the most common cause.
If only one leg involved ,get in angiography of right leg.
Good luck.
