Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've had diarrhea for two days since yesterday. I been getting diarrhea frequently on and off for like 5 months. I though I was lactose intolerant so I stop drinking milk and eating other dairy products. That wasn't the case because I was still getting diarrhea. I'm currenly under doxcycline. I thought it was that too so I stopped using it for 2 days and that wasn;t the case either. I need help please. I need to know whether I should go get tested or not.
Antibiotics can cause diarrhea, it is a common side effect but if the diarrhea has not resolved since the medication was discontinued then it is unlikely related to this.
It is possible that the symptoms are due to viral or bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract.
If the diarrhea is severe and associated with additional symptoms such as fever, headache, loss of appetite, joint and muscle aches, then you should be tested to rule out bacterial infection.
If this symptoms are not present then it may be viral and treatment mainly involves the use of fluids and probiotics.
I hope this helps
