Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In Foot

I noticed my foot getting sore a little after lunch today. By the end of the work day the pain had grown increasingly worse and was sore to apply pressure. While driving home I could feel my foot swelling up and pain continued. After getting home i removed my shoe and the top of my foot and my toes were swollen and discolored but not to the bruising color, and felt numbness in my middle two toes. I don t recall hitting my foot on anything or injuring it at any particular time. DEbating on going to the ER tonight or just seeing if icing and some pain relievers will help.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot in the leg). For this reason, I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam, a Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels and some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR, D dimmer plasma levels).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
