Suggest Treatment For Lack Of Sleep

Hello. I live in Australia and I have either ulceratve colitis or crohns disease. My gastrroenerologist says that it hasn't declared itself even after diagnosis since 1992. My three neices and nephews have crohns and my brother has crohns but my father had ulcerative colitis. Does this help diagnosis in any way? And does it really matter which one I have? I am also on 50mg of prednisone at the moment and have slept 7 hours in four nights, even though I take the dose in the morning. PLEASE HELP.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to health care magic. I am Dr Alok Sinha, MD Psychiatry from India. I will try my best to answer your query.
I can understand your concern. Due to family history of Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease you have a lot of anxiety. As you told that your gastroenterologist who is treating you since last more than 20 years has not declared it, apparently you are having none of them. It is not the disease; rather it is this over-valued idea and doubt of having the some serious illness in alimentary tract that is ruining your sleep and health.

Oral steroid (Prednisolone tablet) may also cause sadness of mood or anxiety leading to insomnia.

I suggest you to discuss this issue with your gastroenterologist and also visit a psychiatrist who may assess you well for anxiety and depressive symptoms and prescribe you some medicines to relieve anxiety and induce sleep.

I hope it answers your query. I wish you a good health.
