Suggest Treatment For Irregular Periods

My daughter called me today to tell me her period was orange in color, she gets her cycle twice a month and says she feels like her ovaries are being pulled out. We have had her on birth control which helped but she also has a thoracik condition (sorry for the spelling) and we were told to take her off the pills. She has had a CT scan two years ago looking for cysts and nothing was found. She does not want to be on the pill but really struggles with the period. She is a freshman at college and is very physically fit (ROTC Airforce). I do not know what to tell her or how to help her. We have not had luck with OBGYN, they just tell her to try another pill. Any ideas why her period is orange? Any helpfull suggestions?
