Suggest Treatment For Depression And Sleep Apnea

Hi have been recently diagnosed with the three following: 1. mild sleep apnea 2. Hypothyroidism 3. Low Testosterone. I am currently treating the sleep apnea and have been for two months. My main symptom is depression. The CPAP is not helping. My doctor is hesitant on treating my low t but I wish he would. I think back and have always had self esteem issues. I think I have had low t my entire life. I also was late in hitting puberty which also leads me to this conclusion. Should I be concerned about testosterone therapy?

Hello,

Not everyone tolerates CPAP therapy. You should report it to your treating doctor. Depending on your condition, your doctor may prescribe an alternative PAP therapy like automatic positive airway pressure (APAP) or bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP or BPAP). You can consult with him regarding the other option. It may be helpful for you.

You should lose weight if obese, maintain healthy weight. Nasal sprays, adhesive strips are helpful. Position changes while sleeping and oral appliances (mouthpieces), nerve stimulators, medications effectively relieves sleep apnea. Get clinically examines and tested to detect chronic diseases.

Get it treated, surgery may be recommended if needed. You are also experiencing depression, it may be due to hypothyroidism and low testosterone levels. Continue to take your prescribed medicines for hypothyroidism. Contact your treating GP, he may recommend testosterone therapy (oral therapy, injections, gels, skin patch, etc.).

it works well but improvement may be seen only after 7-8 weeks, so you will have to be patient. You can take shellfish, eggs, green veggies, avocados, fatty fish, cocoa products, etc to boost your testosterone level. Stay away from addictions if any like alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
