Give him steam inhalation .
Give plenty of fluids.
Take levocetirizine syrup with ambrxol for sputum.
Give him nasal decongestant drops at night for undisturbed sleep.

Upper respiratory tract infection or acute bronchitis most commonly is caused by viruses . It's self resolving conditions and in 4 to 5 days symptoms subside . What is needed is only symptomatic treatment such as if you have fever take paracetamol and nasal congestion take decongestant and antihistamines. Some time cough persists that too many times dry cough that subside after 1 to 2 weeks he can take cough suppressant syrup etc. But some time bacterial infection sets in at this time of decreased immunity and may cause lung parenchymal infection that we call pneumonia or pneumonitis . So if fever is not subsiding cough has increased in severity and frequency and this has purulent sputum these all are suggestive of something serious and is suggestive of lung infection . What we need to do this time is get an x ray chest done sputum examination with blood work is needed to identify exact causative agent and diagnosis .
