Suggest Treatment For Asthma And Cough

my son has been having asthma flare ups over the past several months at least once a month. Every time his asthma flares up his doctor puts him on prednisone. Over the past couple months I have noticed his voice becoming hoarse in addition to having a cough. The coughing wakes him at night when he has the exacerbations . Is there anything else we can be doing to better manage his asthma? He is currently using symbicort

Hello
Read this very carefully and you will get the desired answer for your son.
ASTHMA :Airways hyperresponsiveness that is secondary to inflammatory airways disease that results in recurrent or chronic episodes of WHEEZE, SHORTNESS of BREATH(SOB0, CHEST TIGHTNESS &/or COUGH particularly at night or in the early morning ( your son is having all these symptoms including hoarseness of voice , may be due to laryngeal edema ( side effect of prednisolone or inflammation of larynx).
Pollen , dust ( fine dusting powder) mist , molds ,pests ( cockroaches ) , fumes , smoking ( active and passive ) , sudden chance of temperature ( increase or decrease ) , as all these are predisposing factors which triggers asthmatic attack.
If possible avoid these .
When such patient visit my clinic I prescribe Montelukast+bambuterole tablet once or twice in day . dosage are 0.2 mg of / kg body weight of each tablet .
Hot coffee and steam inhalation provide instant relief as these acts as bronchodilators.
I never prescribe PREDNISOLONE my patient .This is only meant for serious cases .
