Suggest Treatment For Anxiety And Dizziness

Hello,

I have been using MDMA for a year and a half now. I have a background of mental illnesses ranging from OCD, which is now not a problem and anxiety. I had a family bereavement in August 2012, which lead to me starting MDMA use to escape from the reality of life. I have used the substance around 9 times since September 2012, with at least a gap of 1-3 months between use, and around 1/4 of a gram each time. I have also used coke a few times during these gaps, as well as marijuana.

Outside of those times, which were with friends, I don't use drugs and don't drink often. Since April last year I have been experiencing sporadic dizzy and lightheaded spells which have become more constant recently. I have taken MDMA in November, January 1st and February 1st, so slightly more regularly recently. I attributed these symptoms with anemia or the winter weather, but had a blood test that ruled it out.

I have felt run down since taking MDMA on February 1st, with a really bad cough, chills, nausea and again feeling lightheaded. The cough is probably just a cold and it is confounding the existing dizziness, but I now realise that the drug use is responsible for my previous symptoms. I feel dizzy and faint sometimes when walking, but also when sitting down. Also sometimes my vision is really dim and it's hard to focus on bright lights and text on phones/laptops, etc.

I already went to my gp and he attributed it to my past experiences of anxiety, and also my family bereavement, rather than the drugs. I often feel dizzy when I am perfectly relaxed. What is wrong with me and can I recover?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello there, Well, you seem to be using MDMA probably once or twice in a month, which is actually not much and your pattern of usage has probably got nothing to do with the symptoms that you are experiencing right now.Anxiety probably associated with depression can very well lead to somatic complaints. The psychological stress is exhibited as physical symptoms. My advise to you would be to do complete general medical check including thyroid function test and to consult an ENT specialist to rule out any possible organic causes for the symptoms that you exhibit. Once that is ruled out its important for you to consult a psychiatrist, you may probably require psychological or pharmacological management.
