Hello,

For one to say IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) that is irritable bowel syndrome to be the cause of symptoms it is necessary for all the relevant investigations to be within normal limits.

The symptoms of going for passing motion after food, need of smoking can also be due to any inflammatory disease like entero-colitis, intolerance and you already have a history of Pancreatitis.

Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
-Contrast enhanced CT scan of abdomen.
-Tests of stool for three days.
-Tests of blood for liver, pancreas, thyroid functions.
-Upper GI Endoscopy.
-Colonoscopy and biopsy.
-Any other tests as advised.
-Clinical evaluation and examination by a Gastroenterologist.

All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and you get a specific treatment if any specific disease is found. If all the tests are normal, then only this can be said to be IBS and control of stress and anxiety give the most wonderful results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
