Hello dear. Difficulty in swallowing can be due to multiple reason. One is that there may be spread of cancer near his throat which is causing external compression on his food pipe, Other is that he is having inflammation of the food pipe(mucositis). Other can be that he might have some infection(fungal)of the food pipe. You should discuss these options with your doctor and then the treatment can be planned out.
