My dad 73 years old has been diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer, he has to go through 35 sessions or rapidarc radiotherapy
We started treatment last week and so far there are no side effects. I read curcumin, glutamine, aloe Vera and green tea can reduce side effects around oral mucositis and dry mouth. What is the best way to alleviate side effects?

Sore throat 4 weeks. Back of throat red. Went to doctor Zithromax caused thrush. Throat culture negative. Full bloodwork and HIV test neg. nystatin oral rinse got,rid of thrush. Ate a lot of mild cough drops and nystatin, developed diffuse buccal mucosa swelling, both sides of inner cheeks. Right more than left. A couple secondary bite wounds from having swollen inner cheeks. Been to dr several times and doesn't seem to know what's causing it. Buccal mucosa swollen for two weeks. Finished nystatin two weeks ago. Increased drinking of beer and smoking, stress from dad dying. Cutting back, local irritation possibly? Have tried salt water swoosh, ibuprofen, and Claritin. Dr thought maybe red throat from post nasal drip. Oh and none of the above helped. Dr said no lesions or evidence of infection, or cancer. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I am a 21 year old female and I have had a red lesion with a white middle on my upper lip since last september. I went to my Doctor about it and she thought it was a cold sore and gave me a prescription for that. I took the pills and it did not go away or even start to get better. She then sent me to an ENT for it and they did a punch biopsy on the lesion. The results of the biopsy was mucositis. The ENT wanted to do surgery to remove it. I talked to my Doctor and she then sent me to a plastic surgeon to get a second opinion. The plastic surgeon looked at the results of the punch biopsy and did not see where the results said anything about mucositis. I just had surgery on the lesion last Friday to get it removed. During it he removed the lesion but found a second lesion under the top lesion and removed that as well. I had 6 stitches. I just got the stitches out today and he said that we stomped the pathologist because he still can't figure out what it could be. I have to go back next week to see if they found anything out yet. I am getting really frustrated and just want to know what it could be!

doctor1 MD

Thanks for your query, i have gone through your query. the lesion could be a frictional keratosis or irritational fibroma. wait till the biopsy report comes for the confirmation of the diagnosis. nothing to worry it will be a benign lesion. you could have consulted a oral physician to confirm the...

Hey doctor,

I have noticed that the roof of my motuh has been sore the last couple of days and upon investigating an having a look I noticed that the roof of my mouth is purple which I am unsure if it is normal or not? I also noticed these red sores on the inside of my mouth which is where it hurts when I eat or swallow it kind of feels like a cut. My husband was treated last year for CA base tongue stage 4, his tongue is clear but he has now had 2 of 3 sessions of Al Saraff chemotherapy, the 3rd has been postponed as he needs to build himself up. The specialist advises there is no tumour in the lymph gland but he has a ganglion which currently makes surgery high risk due to its proximity to the carotid. He says this needs reduced before surgery is an option.
Can chemoptherapy reduce this sufficiently? If it is not an option what would a treatment plan be?Also he has mucositis which impacts on his eating, how long does it last?
