Suggest Remedy To Lower Fever And Cough

Hello, my son is 2 years and 10 months old. He is suffering from fever , cough and cold for past 3 days. He was advised crocin and relent syrup. His fever is recurring in the night and afternoon when I give him crocin. Otherwise he only has bad cough now. Please advise as to what should I do .
Thanks!

Hi there,

To my records, Relent syrup contains codeine. I usually do not prescribe codeine in infants. Instead, further evaluation of cough is needed together with physical examination of the child to determine the right syrup:
- if the cough is productive, then, mucolytics are advised.
- if signs of pneumonia are present, antibiotic is needed
- if the cough is dry and no phlegm, anti-hystamine drug is advised

Crocin will help reduce the fever. It is normal to get high fever in the afternoon and at night as it seems that he is having virosis.

If symptoms would get worse, get him checked by a pediatrician.

Wish fast recovery!
