Hello,

You have itching in the private area that is causing you discomfort. Such symptom commonly occurs due to tinea cruris also called jock itch (fungal infection). Keep the genital area clean and dry, wear clean, loose, soft cotton undergarments. Avoid using perfumes or scented personal care products in your private area. Wash your clothes in hot water frequently. Take bath regularly. You can apply a thin layer of ointment clotrimazole or miconazole to reduce itching. Take oral antifungal medications like a course of fluconazole for relief.

If overweight, reduce weight. If allergic to latex condoms, avoid using it. Control your blood glucose level to reduce spread of infection and prevent spread. Limit carbohydrate intake, stay active. Get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. If you want to get pregnant, get PCOS treated. Avoid stress and anxiety. Take food rich in iron and minerals. Take adequate protein. Stay with your partner and go for frequent intercourse after your private area gets clear of the fungal infection. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
