Post surgery, the patient must be allowed to eat a good nutritious diet without any restrictions for atleast one month, till surgical wounds heal. In this initial phase of wound healing, no food restriction is advised. A high energy, high protein diet is advised for proper wound healing, so you can give him foods which he prefers and make sure he eats adequate amounts of protein rich foods like milk and milk products like curd/cheese, if non-vegetarian you can give him eggs alongwith the yolk, mutton, fish and chicken. Pulses, beans and grams all are rich sources of proteins. There is no restriction on oily and fatty foods also as of now so you can give energy dense fat containing foods till surgical wounds heal completely.

Since, he is on an anticoagulant, you must avoid following foods which are contra indicated:

1. Green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek leaves, mustard leaves, amaranth leaves, etc.

2. Tomatoes, cauliflower,cabbage, broccoli etc.

3. Soyabean oil and mustard oil.

Avoid giving these foods and other foods which are rich in vitamin K

Hope you have got an idea about what needs to be done. Only after post surgical wounds have healed, can you place him on a low fat diet.
