Suggest A Low Glucose Diet

Hello, I had a total thyroidectomy 2001 due to cancer. I am now 64 yrs old. I have some cells showing up that shouldn t be there but I can t get back to my doctor for more testing until the end of June. On the bloodwork paper results she gave me I noticed my glucose level is 64 & I seem to have some low glucose symptons. Question: Should I just follow a low glucose diet? Thanks, Angi

Hello Angi,
you mentioned nothing about medications. Do you have diabetes? Are you using any medications besides thyroxine?
If you do have diabetes and take drugs for it then you should aim for a 80-120 mg/dL fasting bood sugar. Increasing the dosage and your physical activity reduces blood glucose and vice versa.
If you don't have diabetes and you're not using any medications that may cause hypoglycemia then your 64 glucose level is low but not so low to warrant immediate investigation for its cause. Keep in mind that a level of 64 mg/dL is rather unlikely to cause symptoms although it can't be excluded.
When you feel symptoms it's better to check your blood sugar at home and THEN drink some juice unless you're feeling you're going to pass out. In that case you should immediately raise your blood sugar.
This way you can make sure whether your symptoms are really related to a low blood sugar or not.
There no specific diet for that. If you're having hypoglycemia, you should increase your blood sugar by eating or drinking something.
I hope I've addressed your concerns!
If you have any more questions then please ask again.
Kind Regards!
