Suffering From Heart Palpitations, Shortness Of Breath And Anxiety. Should I Consult A Doctor?

For a while now I ve been having heart palpitations and some anxiety going along with that. I ve been trying to live with it and have a Dr s appointment to check things out Wednesday, but today has been a bad day. My heart has actually not been palpitating a lot today, but there have been several times today that I have become very short of breath. And this evening, while I was singing, when I sang too much, my hands would start to tingle and go numb. I assume that means something is wrong with circulation or oxygen supply. Do you have any suggestions for me as I try to wait until I see a doctor on Wednesday? For instance, when are symptoms bad enough to justify a trip to the ER?

Hello,
greetings from healthcaremagic.com

I am Dr Sourav Chakraborty and i will be helping you with your query.

Your symptoms are suggestive of a cardiac illness and though you have not mentioned your age ( very important in your case), if you do suffer from diabetes , hypertension and thyroid disorder then please go and see a cardiologist at the earliest . I firmly believe you should not wait for your symptoms/ discomfort to grow, please take a prompt action.

Meanwhile please do get a baseline Electrocardiogram and an Echocardiogram done for you so as to evaluate any rythmic or structural abnormality of your heart.

Going by your history and if your age is over 30 years ischemic heart disease/ coronary artery insufficiency can be a notable cause for you for such symptoms . However cardiac arrythmia can present at any age and at any time. Also we need to rule out anxiety disorder for you, which can mimic cardiac ailments initially.

You have to take precaution , in case you have to wait longer to visit your doctor like prevent your self from doing any heavy lifting , emotional exaggeration , take laxatives in case you suffer from constipation so that you don't strain much , take time to rest between work / house hold work , eat well and in time to prevent acidity and stomach upset which can mimic cardiac ailments too and lastly a good night sleep of minimum 6 hours.

Hope i have been able to help. Take care
