Strange Sensation At The Back Of Head, Losing Balance, Black Outs. On Diet Pills. Suggestions?

Hi I'm 21 years old. For the past few months. I've been feeling a weird fluttering type feeling in the back of my head. Almost like getting goose bumps. And also when Im standing ill seem to be losing my balance and everything goes dark for a few seconds. I've been on diet pills for four months. Could this be the cause?

Hello,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be due to:
1. Any pathology in the vestibular apparatus in inner ear (it is associated with maintenance of body posture & balance) & Cerebello-pontine angle.
2. Any fluctuation in blood pressure levels such as Hypotension.
3. Decrease in blood sugar levels (Hypoglycemia)- can also be attributed to the diet pills you are taking.
4. Deficiency of certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B 12, Calcium, etc. which interferes with blood formation & nerve conduction.
5. Long term use of certain medications.

Sensation of loss of balance & black out can be attributed to reduced blood supply to brain during standing up from sitting posture due to peripheral accumulation of blood in lower limbs.

Investigations like complete blood count, estimation of blood pressure and blood sugar levels will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

So, it will be better to consult an ENT specialist & get a proper physical examination done including vestibular function tests.
Based upon that, appropriate management steps could be taken.

Also, make sure that you do not get up or bends down suddenly.
Take some time, it prevents peripheral accumulation of blood & reduces the chances of symptoms like loss of balance & black out.

Wishing a good health.
Take care.
