A certain amount of discharge is normal during certain times of the menstrual cycle. If you have itching, pain, foul odour then infection is likely. Also pain on day 1/2 of periods is also normal.

I am 23 yrs old, and have had normal periods and discharge. My periods always last about 5 days and is heavy the first 2 days and very light the last 3-4 days. However, this last cycle I have noticed that it has lasted 10 days and is medium flow, but is smelly and the discharge is brownish and thick w blood. It doesnt hurt or itch, but Im worried it might be something serious. I have been checked and my tests came back negative for any STDs.
