Should I Be Worried About My Heart Conditions?

Hi I am 45 year old female. Imam 5 ft 6 and weigh 9 stone 4. Today I was diagnosed with mitral valve leak premature atrial contractions and premature ventricular contractions. My cardiologist said its nothing to worry about and prescribed a low dose beta blocker?
Please can you tell what I should do what further tests I need or if this really s nothing to worry about ?

Hi,
Your query is very genuine, as all heart conditions should be be taken seriously. But, I would rather add to this statement. The seriousness of a heart condition depends on various parameters which can be measured individually with separate tools, like Echocardiography for valvular conditions; ECG, Holter monitoring and electrophysiological studies for rhythm disturbances. The severity of mitral valve leak can be easily measured by Echocardiography and I am sure that it would be minimal if your cardiologist has looked into your Echo report. Similarly premature atrial and ventricular beats are common with valvular disorder and can be best treated by a beta blocker. An annual Echo, Endocarditis prophylaxis and reporting symptoms to your cardiologist are however strongly suggested.
Regard.
