Should I Avoid Tylenol When There Is Fever And Ear Infection?

My daughter is 21 months old, went to the Dr today for fever, double ear infection, and we found out her liver is enlarged. We are waiting for a sonogram appointment - are there any activities she should avoid because of the liver? should we avoid the tylenol and ibuprofen??

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Enlarge liver(hepatomegaly) in children is a common finding in children. It could be caused by bacteria infection or parasitic infection like malaria parasite if in malaria zone. Hepatomegaly does not mean liver infection or defective liver, it is just a reaction to overactivity. Tylenol or ibuprofen will not harm the baby. However, the causes of the enlarged liver as well as the ear infection should be handled immediately to prevent complications. Some ear infection could be caused by respiratory viruses and symptomatic management will do.However, bacterial ear infections are very common and will need antibiotics. This will be judged by your Doctor from examination and tests.
Hope my answer will help you
