Severe Diarrhea, Nausea And Heart Burn. Taking Lomotil And Colofac. What Does This Indicate?

Hi. I have had severe diarrhea for over 8 weeks now barely controlled with lomotil and Colofac.if I don t take these tablets I am constantly on the toilet. I am awaiting an appointment to see a gastro specialist. I sometimes have over 10+ episodes per day my doc took stool samples few weeks ago and it came back ok. Getting alot of nausea lately also. I m unsure if this is related but I ve also had bad heartburn for last year I ve been prescribed zoton fastabs. Do you have any idea what is wrong with me as its restricting my life as I can no longer go running I work also as a bus escort and I cannot chance being on a bus far away from a toilet so I ve been turning down work for past few weeks.

Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that have really made life so difficult so you. These symptoms are suggestive of a chronic diarrhea which has so many different possible causes which include, malabsorption, food intolerance, inflammatory bowel disease (like Chron's disease), pancreatic insufficiency, infection, etc. Only a detailed interrogation and investigation of symptoms would be able to help identify the exact cause of this. I am happy that with you scheduled to meet a Gastroenterologist, this would be looked into and probably you would be provided with the much needed help.

For now, continue with the symptom control tablets and let's hope that your visit offer real solutions to get you out of this.

I hope you find this helpful and provides enough information for you to make and informed decision on how to tackle this. Thank you so much for having used our services and we do hope to see you next time if need be. I wish you good health.
