Scheduled For Hysterectomy Abdominally, Large Uterus, Fibroids. Is It Safe? Alternative Treatment Required?
Hi there. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy soon, and the doctor tells me he has to go in abdominally because of the size of my uterus and two large fibroids. I am fine with that but am listening to others tell me that is drastic and I should look into other forms of treatment such as shrinkage of the fibroids with meds or needles. I believe my doctor would not recommend the hysterectomy if there was another way to do it. I am 52, not yet in menopause

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Abdominal hysterectomy is advised in cases of large fibroid, if there is any other associated problem. But you may need to take rest for more days and other complications like hernia in future. You can discuss with your doctor about laproscopic operation, where they can remove uterus in pieces, or taking medications to reduce size of uterus and then going for operation. Hope I answered your question. Consult your doctor for further examination and management. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
Regards Dr. Vidya
