Recurred Chills, Cold Sweats, Weakness Before Passing Stools. Detected Mild Leukocytis. On Cifran Ct For Stomach Infection Followed By White Coating On Tongue. Guide

I was experiencing chills and cold sweats and weakness. This is usually before I have a bowel movement. After I relieve myself I feel better. The doctor ordered blood tests which came back with mild leukocytis. my count was 0000. and my ESR came back as 45. The doctor guessed a stomach infection and put me on a 5 day course of Cifran CT. I felt a lot better after that. but the symptoms have returned again. Also I have noticed that since taking the medicines, I have a white coating on the back of my tongue. I dont know if I should run the tests again. IS a stool test necessary?

hi..
you have fever, coated tongue, chills and pain abdomen..
it is due to enteric infections..
since already you have taken ciprofloxacin...
better to go for widal test and stool examination..
see your physician for the diagnosis and treatment..
enteric pathogens not responding to fluoroquinoline should be put on cephalosporins..prokinetics, and multivitamins..
all the very best..

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

If you were on a course of antibiotics such as cifran CT (ciprofloxacin and tinidazole) which is a good combo for stomach infections and you felt better, then recurrence occurred after completing treatment, this simply means that the germs were not completely eradicated or the causative organism is not complete susceptible to the treatment. At this point, I suggest you get a stool exams and culture, then another blood test with CBC, ESR, CRP (as with an ESR of 45 it is a cause for a little concern), urinalysis etc.
The infection might not necessarily be based in your stomach or it could be due to intestinal worms, salmonellosis, shigellosis etc which will require of course an appropriate treatment, maybe a longer course of antibiotics.
You will need to see the doctor again.

Hope this helps
