How Can A Stomach Infection Be Treated?

My wife ,67 yrs of age , has either a stomach virus or maybe the flu I m thinking. She has vomited three times accompanied by mild diarrhea. She has the chills but doesn t feel warm at the forehead. I have put many blankets on her but she still feels cold. I just gave her warm chicken broth to replace electrolytes. She also has stomach cramps. What more can I do to comfort her?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, a possibility of Rotavirus infection is more likely in your wife's case.

You should follow these steps for better symptomatic relief:

1. Give her Oral rehydration solution (ORS) and Zinc tablet.
2. Give her probiotic drug like Sporolac.
3. Give her Pantoprazole and Levosulpiride combination for stomach cramps and vomiting.

She will mostly improve with all these in 2 to 3 days. If not improving, then consult the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar
