Random Pounding, Feeling Of Tight Pressure In Middle Of Chest. EKG, Bloodwork Normal. Diagnosed Anxiety. Opinion?
Hello, Recently I've been experiencing random pounding almost like a flutter feeling tight pressure in the middle of my chest. I had bloodwork and a EKG done at the hospital which came back normal. I did a echocardiogram Today and waiting on the results. I was diagnosed with anxiety d my doctor said the symptoms I'm having are associated with the anxiety. What is your opinion?
Your symptoms could be both organic or due to anxiety before we reach to conclusion that they are due to anxiety we must rule out important causes.
This is good that your ECG and blood work is normal. I hope in the same way your Echocardiography also turns out to be normal.Let us wait the result.
Such symptoms are caused by intermittent arrhythmia that is fast heart rate we may require to do a Holter study for 24 hours to detect them.
In some cases even EPS( Electrophysiological study ) may be required.
If everything is fine then anxiety is most likely explanation where very good drugs like Beta blocker and /or anxiolytic treatment along with psychotherapy is useful.
Even yoga and meditation helps in anxiety disorders.
Hope this helps. Take care Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
