Hello,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Dandruff is a common condition presenting with itchy flakes over scalp.
Apart from dandruff, other conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, scalp psoriasis could also present in similar way. Thus for definitive diagnosis you may need a proper examination by a dermatologist.
For unremitting dandruff, you should follow some basic tips like proper hygiene of scalp by daily hairwash. Avoid excessive application of oil, hair gel, hair sprays etc.
As for the treatment, start a short course of oral ketoconazole(200mg) for 10 days(as advised by your dermatologist)
Apply a lotion containing betamethasone and cotrimazole/ketoconazole twice a day over scalp without rubbing.
For hair wash, first cleanse your scalp with normal shampoo and then use a medicated shampoo(Twice a week) containing preferably ketoconazole and salicyclic acid with ZPTO, gently massage scalp for 5-10 mins and then wash it off and then apply conditioner to prevent dry, unruly hair.
Proper treatment of dandruff will definitely improve your hairfall too.
Hope this will take care of your problems.
Wish you best of health.
Take care,
Dr Hardik Pitroda
