Pregnant And HCG Level Was Not Doubling. Chances Of Miscarriage?
I yes I am 27 your old female. I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago. last Tuesday we saw nothing in ultrasound this Tuesday we saw a gestational sac. my hcg level on tues was 4167 and thurs was 5353. my ob said right away it will result in a miscarriage. I understand the rule of doubling in 48 hrs however literature is clear that when your hcg levels are 1200-6000m doubling time can take 72-96 hours. is it possible I just tested to early or was dehydrated. I worked all night before testing and was vomiting all night.
Your current beta-HCG level indicates 5-6 weeks gestation from LMP and it is doubled every 48-72 hrs in most healthy pregnancy. Later on, it takes time up to 96 hr to be doubled. In early stage, ultrasound scan gives more accurate result than beta-hcg level. Dehydration usually does not alter the value of pregnancy hormone (beta HCG).
With above value, you don't need to worry at this stage. You would undergo one TVS scan after 1 week to get more detailed picture about fetal well being. Fetal cardiac activity is seen around 6-7 weeks on TVS scan and it is a sign of healthy pregnancy.
In this time, you continue to take vitamin & folic acid supplements, drink more water/ fluid, take protein rich diet with fresh vegetables, avoid stress and take adequate bed rest.
Hi dear, In a normal pregnancy, the BCG titre becomes 1 1/2 -2 times in 48 hrs. Also, at BHCG titre of more than 2500-3000, not only gestation sac but also the embryo is clearly visualized in USG especially by transvaginal route. SO, if at BHCG of 4167 only gestation sac is visible, than the chances goes more in favour of missed abortion. However, do wait for 10 days and get a scan repeated. All the best
